APC House of Representatives Aspirants Reject Alleged Imposition of Candidates in Adamawa

Tension is mounting within the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State ahead of the party’s House of Representatives primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, as aspirants accused some party leaders of plotting to impose candidates across the eight federal constituencies in the state.

The development followed complaints and agitations by aspirants who alleged that certain “powers that be” were working to undermine the democratic process of the primaries.

At the end of a meeting of the Forum of APC Adamawa State House of Representatives Aspirants, a communiqué was issued calling on the party leadership to ensure free, fair, and credible primaries across the state’s 226 wards.

According to the communiqué, consensus arrangements had failed in all the eight federal constituencies, making transparent primaries the only acceptable option for the over 60 aspirants seeking the party’s tickets.

The Forum alleged that some state party executives had approached aspirants and pressured them to step down from the race, claiming they were acting on “orders from above,” including alleged directives linked to the Governor of Adamawa State and the National Security Adviser.

The aspirants further raised concerns over alleged reports of a so-called “Presidential List” containing names of preferred candidates for the constituencies, describing such moves as undemocratic and capable of affecting the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

Spokesperson of the Forum, Hon. Vrati Nzonzo, said only a transparent and credible process would guarantee peace, harmony, and unity within the party ahead of the elections.

He warned that any attempt to subvert due process could threaten the electoral fortunes of the APC in Adamawa State, recalling the party’s experiences during the 2019 and 2023 elections.

The Forum therefore called on the party leadership, including the state governor, the National Security Adviser, and national officials of the APC, to handle the primary election process in accordance with the party’s constitution and extant laws.

Despite the growing tension, the aspirants appealed to their supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting the party’s response to their concerns.
