NEDC Supports Adamawa Communities with Relief for Boko Haram Attack Victims

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided relief materials to over 1,000 families affected by the April 26 Boko Haram attacks on Guyaku in Gombi Local Government Area and Mijilu in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The items were formally presented to the member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. James Barka, who will oversee their distribution to the affected households.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the NEDC, Barr. Khalifa Lawan, represented by Mr Musa Hyeladi, conveyed the commission’s condolences to the victims and encouraged beneficiaries to use the materials for their intended purpose.

He noted that the intervention demonstrates the commission’s continued commitment to supporting communities devastated by insurgency and helping affected families recover from the impact of the attacks.

Receiving the relief items, Hon. James Barka expressed appreciation to the NEDC for responding promptly to the needs of the affected communities. He assured residents that the materials would be distributed fairly and transparently to all deserving beneficiaries.

The relief package included 1,000 bundles of zinc roofing sheets, 3,000 ceiling boards, 200 cartons of nails, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 branded mats, 500 bags of 25kg rice, 240 five-litre containers of vegetable oil, and 200 cartons of spaghetti.

The April 26 attacks left several people dead, displaced hundreds of residents, and destroyed homes and other valuable property in the two communities.

The intervention is part of the NEDC’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected communities across the North-East, supplying food, shelter materials and other essential household items to families whose homes and livelihoods have been devastated by insurgency.
