NEDC Provides Relief Support to Victims of Communal Crisis in Lamurde LGA
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided emergency relief materials to families affected by the recent communal crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, reinforcing its commitment to humanitarian assistance across the North-East.
The relief items were handed over through the Member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. La’ori. He presented the materials to the Executive Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Hon. Bulus Daniel, for distribution to affected residents.
The intervention included 250 bags of 25kg rice, 250 cartons of spaghetti, 250 five-litre containers of vegetable oil, along with 600 mats and blankets to support displaced and vulnerable households impacted by the crisis.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the NEDC, Barrister Khalifa Lawal, represented by Musa Usman Hyeladi, said the Commission remains committed to delivering prompt humanitarian support to communities facing emergencies.
He urged community leaders to ensure the relief materials are shared fairly, transparently, and only among the intended beneficiaries. He also encouraged residents to embrace peace, dialogue, and reconciliation, noting that sustainable development depends on a stable and peaceful environment.
In their separate remarks, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. La’ori and the Executive Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Hon. Bulus Daniel, praised the NEDC for its swift response, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial to those affected. They called on community members to strengthen peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and unity to prevent future conflicts.
Responding on behalf of the affected communities, Morrison Leasado expressed gratitude to the NEDC and the federal lawmaker for the support. He assured that the relief materials would be distributed in line with the Commission’s guidelines to ensure they reach the families most impacted by the communal unrest.
