Namdas Declares Governorship Bid, Promises Rural Development

A former spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdulrazak Saad Namdas, has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat of Adamawa State. He will be seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election.

The declaration took place at a colourful ceremony held at the Yobi Centre in Yola, drawing a mammoth crowd of supporters and party faithful .

In his address, Dr Namdas stated that his decision was borne out of a desire to consolidate the gains recorded by the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, when elected. He emphasized that he consulted widely before making his intention known to the people.

Laying out his blueprint, the former North-East representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) identified rural development as his topmost priority. He argued that this is the only way to check the persistent rural-urban drift.

Chief Namdas who holds the traditional title of Gangwi Ganye, also pledged that education and healthcare would be taken seriously. He promised to provide state-of-the-art facilities at both primary and secondary health centres, while the education sector would be energized through the provision of instructional materials and modern structures.

He called on the party leadership to be faithful to their words by ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants. He also announced that his campaign team would soon embark on tours of local government areas to inform residents about his aspiration.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Steering Committee for Namdas for Governor 2027, Abdulrahman Shuaibu, told the crowd that Namdas “means business—the business of governance and development.” Citing his track record, Shuaibu noted that while a federal lawmaker, Namdas was instrumental to the construction of the Mayobelwa, Jada, Ganye, and Toungo federal road. “His records speak volumes,” Shuaibu added.

This marks the second time Namdas is aspiring to contest the governorship seat, having previously run in 2023.

Various speakers in their goodwill messages expressed confidence in Namdas’ ability to deliver the goods, citing his vast experience in politics and public life. They called on APC members in Adamawa State to vote for Namdas in the forthcoming party primary election to determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
