Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has confirmed that at least 29 people lost their lives following a deadly attack on Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area, describing the incident as both tragic and unacceptable.

The governor disclosed the casualty figure during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area, where he also met with grieving families and expressed condolences over the loss of lives. He assured residents that the state government remains committed to strengthening security measures and protecting vulnerable communities.

During the visit, Fintiri emphasized his administration’s determination to collaborate closely with security agencies to prevent further violence and restore calm in the area. He noted that efforts are already underway to reinforce security presence and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

Residents of the community are still reeling from the aftermath of the attack, with many—particularly women, children, and the elderly—fleeing their homes out of fear of renewed violence. The atmosphere remains tense, as families mourn loved ones and grapple with the destruction left behind.

A community leader, Aggrey Ali, revealed that the attackers operated for several hours without interruption, killing dozens of residents, setting places of worship ablaze, and destroying properties, including motorcycles.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, while security operatives have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
