Fintiri Charges 21 New LG Chairmen on Accountability and Grassroots Development

Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has sworn in the 21 newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen, directing them to remain in their respective local government areas, uphold transparency, and deliver quality governance at the grassroots.

The governor gave the charge on Wednesday during the swearing-in ceremony in Yola, where he also congratulated the 226 newly elected councillors and the people of Adamawa State for sustaining democratic governance at the local level.

Governor Fintiri praised the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for conducting what he described as a peaceful and credible election across the state’s 21 local government areas. He noted that his administration has successfully conducted four local government elections within seven years, describing the feat as a remarkable achievement.

He reminded the newly inaugurated officials that the oath of office was a sacred responsibility, urging them to serve with integrity and remain accountable to both the people and God.

The governor called on the chairmen to provide effective leadership by living among their constituents, collaborating with traditional rulers and Development Area Administrators, and ensuring government policies bring tangible development to rural communities.

Warning against absentee leadership, Fintiri stressed that local government chairmen were elected to serve in their councils and not from the state capital.

“I would not like to see your individual faces here except on extreme official assignments,” the governor said, adding that his administration would not tolerate leaders who abandon their duty posts.

He further urged the council chairmen to manage public resources responsibly, avoid corruption, and focus on projects that improve the lives of the people, noting that citizens are increasingly demanding accountability from public office holders.

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, the Chairman of Yola North Local Government Council, Hon. Jibril I. Jimeta, assured the governor and the people of Adamawa State of transparent, inclusive, and people-centred leadership.

Jimeta expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for creating an enabling environment for a peaceful and credible election and thanked the electorate for the confidence reposed in the new council officials.

He pledged that all 21 chairmen would work collectively to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the grassroots while promoting accountability and inclusive governance throughout their three-year tenure. He also commended Governor Fintiri’s leadership, describing him as a visionary whose developmental efforts have positively impacted Adamawa State.
