Adamawa State L-PRES Commences Three-Day Capacity Building Training for Livestock Farmers

The Adamawa State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has commenced a three-day Capacity Building Training for Livestock Farmers on Business Development and Entrepreneurship aimed at equipping livestock farmers with modern business and entrepreneurial skills to improve productivity, profitability and contribute to the economic development of Adamawa State.

The training, taking place at Fadfatis  Event Centre, Jimeta-Yola, is designed to equip livestock farmers with practical business and entrepreneurial skills that will improve productivity, profitability, and sustainability within the livestock sector.

Declaring the training open, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Livestock, Hon. Usman Lamurde, described livestock as one of the major contributors to the state’s economy and called on participants to make the most of the opportunity by applying the knowledge acquired during the training to improve their businesses.

He emphasized that the program was designed to move farmers beyond traditional livestock keeping to commercial livestock entrepreneurship capable of creating wealth, generating employment and boosting the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The Commissioner also disclosed that participants would be assessed at the end of the training, noting that only those who demonstrate adequate understanding of the program would be considered for forthcoming Federal Government grant opportunities aimed at improving livestock productivity.

“This is not business as usual. We expect participants to pay attention because future interventions will be based on performance and commitment,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the SPC (State Project Coodinator )  of the L-PRES, Dr Secondee Alfa  welcomed dignitaries, facilitators and participants to the workshop.

He appreciated the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, members of the Steering Committee and development partners for supporting the implementation of the L-PRES Project.

The SPC described the event as significant, noting that it was rare to have two commissioners officially inaugurate the program. He also commended the visiting professors and resource persons for bringing their wealth of knowledge and practical experience to train livestock farmers across the state.

He urged participants to actively engage throughout the three-day program.

Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Audu Ayuba Tanko delivered a goodwill message, describing the program as timely and inclusive.

The Commissioner encouraged participants to pay close attention to the lectures, interact with the facilitators and apply the knowledge gained to their businesses, stressing that practical application of knowledge remains the key to success in entrepreneurship.

Addressing the participants  the monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer of Adamawa State L-PRES, Mr. Emmanuel Audi, emphasized the need for livestock farmers to move away from traditional subsistence practices and embrace modern, business-oriented livestock production.

According to him the three-day workshop will feature practical sessions, technical presentations and interactive discussions aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship, improving livestock production systems and enhancing farmers’ access to market opportunities across Adamawa State.
