Adamawa Governor Flags Off New Flyover

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintri on Saturday 7th Oct 2023, flagged off the construction of the third fly over in Jimeta, Yola, the State Capital.

The new flyover is expected to gulp the sum of 9.26bn.

Governor Fintiri said, the construction of the flyover, is in his desired to fulfill his campaign promises, saying it’s part of his urban renewal campaign encapsulated in its 8 points agenda.

“Urban renewal occupies a central place on our 8 – Point Agenda of ensuring no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched in Adamawa State.

“In our first term in office, we prosecuted this campaign with great vigour and in this second term, I want to reassure you that we shall prosecute this campaign with even greater strength.

“We have improved the infrastructural status of both our urban and rural centers tremendously and we are not willing to back pedal on this course until the narrative is completely altered for the better. The mission is beyond rhetoric and the vision is clear: we are here to build an Adamawa State of the 21st century and beyond. Those who are in doubt can continue to lick their rotting wounds,” he noted.

Fintiri added that the huge investment of his government in infrastructure, has made Adamawa State as one of the emerging most business friendly states in Nigeria.

“The good road network within Yola and our signature overhead bridge and the grade interchange with underpass have so far placed our capital city beyond ecstasy to being the most convenient capital city for vehicular movement in the Northeast subregion.

“Today, we are gathered again to continue with the good job we are known for: the job of making our State great and making our people happy.

The Governor said, the current economic situation necessitated the cost of the project.

“Considering today’s economic realities, the contract for the project is awarded at the total contract sum of ₦9,264,498,755.33K inclusive of all statutory deductions. It is awarded as Lot 1 with a completion period of 18 Months”.

The contract is awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited.

Governor Fintiri Pardons Nine Inmates, Commutes Death Sentence to Mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary In commemoration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has granted pardons to nine inmates serving various terms in correctional facilities across the state. A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the Governor ordered the immediate release of the pardoned inmates, noting that all legal formalities had been concluded with the Nigerian Correctional Service. “The Governor acted on the advice of the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 212(1)(d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” the statement said. According to the statement, those granted pardon and discharged include Abubakar Dajo, who was serving at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Jos; Zabadi Ayuba and Salvation Nyamso, both serving at the Numan Custodial Centre. Others are Amir Idris, Mohammed Saidu, Yaro Sambo, Buhari Salisu, Urube Samuel and Bamaiyi Amos, who were discharged from the Jimeta, Ganye, Guyuk, Yola Old and Kojoli Custodial Centres, respectively. In addition to the pardons, Governor Fintiri approved the commutation of the death sentence imposed on one inmate, Saidu Abdullahi of the Yola Old Custodial Centre, to life imprisonment. The Governor’s action, the statement noted, was in the spirit of the Independence anniversary and reflects the government’s commitment to mercy, justice and the rehabilitation of offenders. The pardons and commutation take immediate effect, the statement added.
