Adamawa State Govt to Make Kiri Dam Tourists Centre

Kiri Dam, of Shelleng Local Government Area (LGA) is about to go down in history books as most valuable tourist site in Adamawa, Northeast and indeed Nigeria as Adamawa State Government in collaboration with critical stakeholders in tourism industry set to make it a holiday resort park.

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Culture and Tourism Hon. Aloysius Babadoke, disclosed this in a Press Conference held in his office while unveiling line up activities marking the occasion of the 2023 World Tourism Day with a theme “Tourism and Green Environment”.

According to him, the idea will open another window opportunity for the state in revenue generation and pave way for investors considering the potential abound in tourist sites in the Dam.

Hon. Babadoke maintained that with the multiple number of tourism sites available in the state, the Fintiri led administration is committed to maximize and harness them into potential tourism sites.

According to him, Adamawa State is blessed with tourism sites which cut across LGAs of state, notably the Modibbo Adama Palace Museum in Yola South, Sukur World Cultural Heritage site in Madagali.

Others include: Three Sisters Rock in Song LGA, Sassa Waterfall and Gumti National Park in Toungo LGA, Elephant House in Guyuk as well as the confluence of River Gongola and Benue among others.

“This was in addition to the rich annual festivals organised across 21 LGAs of the state which mostly attract tourists from different parts of the world,” the Commissioner added.

He said “in view of the aforementioned tourists sites abound in the state, the present administration is apt in revitalizing these tourism potential sites so as to make them function effectively to enable the state government generate more revenue into its coffers and to also maintain and preserve the historical sites”.

He explained that the reason for celebrating World Tourism Day is to cultivate and create awareness globally on the significance of tourism and its social, political, financial and cultural values

The Commissioner added “the day is an added opportunity for the preservation of our cultural heritage, values as well as promote peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state”.

He further added that the day marks another milestone for the promotion of tourism potentials and cultural values and orientation of multiethnic groups in the state for investment attraction, prosperity and sustainable development in all ramifications.

Director of Tourism in the Ministry, Mr. Solomon Garvuwa while explaining activities lineup for the event schedule to hold at Kiri, a suburb of Shelleng LGA on 27th September, revealed that traditional dances, display of cultural artifact, hiking, fishing competition and a lots more activities will be featured in the one day event.
