NEDC Distributes Food Items to Orphans, Vulnerable Households in Adamawa

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food items to orphans and vulnerable households in Adamawa State as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship and support community stability.

The exercise, which took place on Thursday in Yola, saw the Commission provide essential supplies to over 150 organisations for onward distribution to beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.

Speaking at the event, the NEDC’s Head of Resettlements and Early Recovery, Mr. Lawan Hamidu, stated that the intervention aligns with the agency’s mandate of promoting welfare and stabilising communities in the North-East region.

“This is part of the routine exercise we carry out whenever we notice there are some problems in the society. We set aside a bit of food items to distribute to vulnerable persons and individuals,” Hamidu explained.

He added that the initiative is aimed at addressing pressing social and economic challenges, and called on wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate such gestures, noting that supporting vulnerable groups contributes to peace and stability.

The NEDC Adamawa Coordinator, Mr. Khalifa Lawan, disclosed that the items distributed included rice, spaghetti, and cooking oil. He urged leaders of the benefiting organisations to ensure equitable distribution to their members.

In separate remarks, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council of Nigeria in Adamawa State, Rev. Victor Saje and Malam Ismail Modibbo, commended the initiative. They assured that the items would reach intended beneficiaries across all local government areas.
