Governor Fintiri Wins Continental Food Security Award

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has been named the sole serving Nigerian governor to receive the African Association of Insect Scientists (AAIS) Award for Transformational Leadership in Food Security and Agricultural Resilience.

The prestigious continental honour recognises Governor Fintiri’s visionary leadership in advancing food security, revitalising agriculture, and rebuilding rural livelihoods in Adamawa State’s post-insurgency era, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

The AAIS leadership selected Governor Fintiri during deliberations ahead of the Association’s 26th Biennial International Conference. The award will be formally conferred at the conference’s Opening Ceremony on 19 October 2026 at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja.

In its conferment letter, the Association cited the administration’s sustained investments in rural infrastructure, support for farming communities, and policies promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural development.

The AAIS described Governor Fintiri’s achievements as “a model of purposeful, people-centred leadership” contributing meaningfully to agricultural transformation across the continent.

The recognition further cements Adamawa State’s growing reputation as a leading hub for agricultural innovation and rural development in Nigeria.

The African Association of Insect Scientists is a continental professional body dedicated to promoting insect science for improved agricultural productivity, biodiversity conservation, and food security across Africa.
