Governor Fintiri Confirms 29 Dead In Guyaku Attack, Vows Swift Security Action

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has confirmed that no fewer than 29 people were killed in a brutal attack on the Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, an incident he has labeled as “tragic and unacceptable.”

The governor disclosed the death toll during an on-the-spot assessment of the devastated community on Monday, where he also condoled with grieving families and assured residents of the state government’s firm commitment to improving security.

During his visit, Governor Fintiri reiterated his administration’s resolve to work closely with security agencies to prevent a recurrence and restore normalcy to the area. He described the assault as a deep assault on human life and communal peace.

The atmosphere in Guyaku remains tense, with grief and fear palpable among residents—especially women, children, and the elderly. Many have already abandoned their homes over concerns of further attacks, seeking refuge in neighboring towns.

Paramount traditional ruler, Aggrey Ali Kumo Gombi, gave a harrowing account of the siege, stating that the attackers operated for several hours unchallenged. According to Ali, they killed dozens of residents, burned places of worship to the ground, and destroyed property including motorcycles and food stores.

Security forces have since been deployed to the area to prevent further escalations, while investigations are underway to track down the perpetrators. The governor called for calm and urged residents to report suspicious activity to authorities.
