Egyptian, Chinese presidents hold talks in Cairo on ties, region

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping convened in Cairo on Wednesday for high-level talks focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional issues of mutual concern, marking the first visit by a Chinese head of state to the North African nation in a decade.

The leaders exchanged views on strengthening ties between Cairo and Beijing during discussions held at Al-Ittihadiya Palace following an official reception ceremony, Egypt’s state-linked Al-Qahera News reported. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding collaborative efforts across various sectors while reviewing developments in the region, the outlet noted.

Xi was received at the presidential palace with full military honors, including the playing of the national anthems of both countries and a ceremonial artillery salute, according to an Anadolu correspondent. The formal arrival ceremony underscored the significance of the diplomatic engagement.

The visit represents the first by a Chinese president to Egypt in ten years and is expected to yield several bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing economic and political coordination. Xi’s arrival in the Egyptian capital comes as both countries seek to consolidate their strategic partnership amid shifting regional dynamics.
