Adamawa APC Primary Fair and Transparent, Says Fintiri

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has described the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Adamawa State as transparent and credible, despite concerns raised in some quarters over the conduct of the exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC primary, conducted on Monday, produced a candidate for the senatorial district comprising five local government areas in the state.

Speaking with journalists at the Government House in Yola on Thursday, Governor Fintiri commended party leaders and stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and competitive exercise, noting that internal democracy naturally comes with varying reactions from participants.

The governor also addressed complaints that followed the APC House of Representatives primaries, explaining that such reactions were largely driven by the enthusiasm and limited political experience of some younger aspirants.

“At that level, reactions are expected. Many of the aspirants are energetic young people, but some are still inexperienced in politics and may have assumed victory would come easily. Politics does not work that way,” he stated.

Fintiri insisted that the overall process met acceptable standards, adding that the few irregularities reported were minor and largely due to human error.

“The process was fair and credible. The minor issues observed are normal in exercises of this nature, and I believe a credible outcome was achieved,” he said.

He further assured party members that efforts were underway to strengthen political coordination across the state ahead of future primaries, including those for governorship and state assembly positions.

According to the governor, lessons learned from the recent exercise would help improve transparency and organization in subsequent party activities.

Fintiri also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and promoting development across Adamawa State, particularly in the northern senatorial district, through continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The governor expressed confidence in his administration’s achievements while emphasizing that healthy political competition remains essential to democratic governance.
