Gov. Fintiri Launches Electric Mobility Initiative, Plans Procurement of 1,000 E-Tricycles

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has flagged off the state’s Electric Mobility Initiative with plans to procure 1,000 electric tricycles aimed at empowering youths and reducing dependence on petroleum products.

The initiative was officially launched at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Jimeta during the commissioning and rollout ceremony of electric tricycles in the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fintiri said his administration remains committed to improving the welfare of residents, particularly youths, whom he described as the backbone of society. He explained that the partnership with Sparrow Mobility Limited and other private firms was designed to tackle transportation challenges, create jobs, and promote sustainable development.

According to the governor, the collaboration has already produced positive outcomes, including the local assembly and production of electric tricycles within the state.

Fintiri disclosed that the government would procure 1,000 electric tricycles to be distributed to youths across Adamawa at subsidized rates as part of efforts to boost economic empowerment and reduce transportation costs.

He also revealed that more than 6,000 households across several local government areas have already benefited from solar electrification projects under the administration’s renewable energy drive.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, described the electric mobility initiative as a major step toward easing transportation difficulties and reducing operational costs for tricycle operators.

She noted that the partnership between the ministry and private investors has continued to yield significant results in the state’s transport sector.

In his keynote address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, said his team visited Adamawa in May 2025 to assess investment opportunities and later decided to partner with the state government to address overreliance on fossil fuel.

He described electric tricycles as symbols of sustainability, affordability, and economic growth, while commending Governor Fintiri for creating a favorable environment for investors.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed that several mini-grid projects with a combined capacity of 35 megawatts have been developed across the state, with more ongoing projects underway.

He attributed the successes recorded in the energy sector to the commitment and leadership of Governor Fintiri.

In separate remarks, the representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa State, Dr. Barth Nyalas, and the General Manager of Adamawa Sunshine, Muhammad Tukur Abbo, praised Governor Fintiri’s leadership style, describing him as a transformative leader committed to the development of the state.

Highlights of the event included the commissioning of the electric tricycles, inspection of the company’s facility located at the Federal Housing Estate in Girei Local Government Area, and a visit to the Solar Energy Farm at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.
