APC Primaries: Dr Girei Advocates Clear, Acceptable Party Primary Process For Guber Ticket

A Gubernatorial Aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei, has advised the party to adopt a mode of primary election that will be widely acceptable to all aspirants ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries.

Dr. Girei, an educationist and gubernatorial hopeful, gave the advice in an interview, stressing that if the party opts for the consensus mode, it must establish clear and fair criteria agreeable to all contestants.

He said such criteria should include the popularity of aspirants, their ability to win elections, outreach capacity, competence, loyalty to the party, and geographical strength.
According to him, “Consensus as a method is not a bad option, but it must be built on transparency and fairness to ensure that all aspirants feel carried along.”

Dr. Girei described the APC as a formidable political party that must avoid actions capable of undermining its current performance and unity.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the amended Electoral Act into law, noting that the provision of consensus and direct primaries as options has strengthened internal party democracy while eliminating the indirect mode of primaries.

The APC stalwart further applauded the peaceful conduct of the party’s ward and local government congresses, which produced executives at those levels, describing the process as a positive sign for the party’s internal cohesion.

As the APC prepares for its state congress, Dr. Girei called on politicians to embrace issue-based politics anchored on development and inclusivity, rather than treating the process as a “do-or-die affair.”

He pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s gubernatorial candidate, provided the process is free, fair, and based on merit.
