ADSU Makes Historic Breakthrough, Secures ₦40 Million TETFund Research Grant

Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, has recorded a historic milestone in its research journey, securing a ₦40 million grant under the 2025 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF) Intervention. This marks the first time the institution has successfully produced awardees in a single NRF cycle.

The groundbreaking project, titled “Development of NanoMOF-Based Electrochemical Biosensor for Monitoring Water Contamination and Blood Glucose in Nigeria,” aims to deliver dual-purpose, cost-effective solutions to two of the nation’s most pressing public health challenges: ensuring access to clean water and improving diabetes management through advanced monitoring technology.

This achievement places ADSU among the 174 successful research projects benefiting from the Federal Government’s ₦7.5 billion NRF allocation. The broader intervention prioritizes national development areas, including renewable energy, environmental sustainability, waste management, food preservation, and healthcare innovation, spanning universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Augustine Clement, described the award as a resounding endorsement of the university’s growing capacity for impactful scholarship. He lauded the dedication of the research team and commended the collective spirit of the university community for fostering a culture of excellence.

“This milestone reflects ADSU’s commitment to producing research that addresses both national and global challenges,” Professor Clement stated. “We will continue to create an enabling environment for high-quality research, innovation, and academic excellence.”

The university management has pledged sustained institutional support for faculty members engaging in solution-driven research, reinforcing ADSU’s position as a rising hub for scientific innovation and technological development in the Northeast region.
