Six Dead, Including Four NYSC Members, in Adamawa Road Crash Involving Military Truck

A devastating head-on collision between a military gun truck and a commercial Hummer bus along the Girei–Song road in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of six persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, in the Narehi area, according to a statement from the Adamawa State Police Command.

Police reports indicate that the military gun truck was travelling from Gombi towards Yola when it collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi. The impact of the crash caused the bus to overturn and immediately burst into flames.

All five passengers aboard the commercial vehicle were burnt beyond recognition as the bus became fully engulfed in fire moments after the collision.

Preliminary investigations have identified two of the victims as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both indigenes of Kaduna State and serving NYSC members deployed to Adamawa State. Police confirmed that four of the deceased passengers were corps members, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims.

The Command also confirmed the death of a military personnel who was travelling in the military vehicle.

Emergency responders, including police operatives, swiftly arrived at the scene and evacuated the bodies to the Specialist Hospital in Yola. Authorities continue efforts to identify the remaining victims and contact their families.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, through its spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC, and all those affected by the incident.

The police said investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing and assured the public that further details would be made available as they emerge.

The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on major highways across Adamawa State, particularly routes linking Yola with northern parts of Nigeria.
