Binani Campaign Organization Condemns Babachir Lawal’s “Indecent” Utterances, Calls for Party Discipline
Says NDC chieftain is a “living contradiction” driven by self-absorption, not electoral value
The Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani Gubernatorial Campaign Organization has issued a strong-worded rebuke of Engineer Babachir David Lawal, a chieftain of the National Democratic Party (NDC), accusing him of engaging in “unbecoming utterances” and conduct capable of destroying the party since he joined its ranks.
In a statement issued to the press and signed by Honourable Mathias Yohanna, Director of Media and Public Affairs of the campaign organization, the group said it had watched with concern as the NDC’s teeming supporters and state leadership were “awashed with news” of Lawal’s joining the party, only to discover that he was “poised for destruction, rather than building the party and individuals who had dissipated energy and resources in moving the party to greater heights.”
The campaign organization said it had followed Lawal’s political trajectory over the years and could only adjudge him as “nothing but a living contradiction.”
“Since his response is shrouded with insults and inventive name-calling, let it be clearly stated that we cannot be intimidated by his indecent language, nor do we have any shortage of words to respond. The fundamental difference is that we have chosen to conduct ourselves with the dignity expected of people seeking the mandate of our fellow citizens,” the statement read.
The Binani campaign expressed particular displeasure at Lawal’s alleged use of derogatory terms in addressing party leaders in the North-East, including the phrase “so-called gubernatorial nincompoops,” describing the language as inappropriate for a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“While we respect elders who stand for the truth, our respect should not be taken for granted. Engr. Babachir Lawal, who served in the exalted office of Secretary to the Government of Nigeria, has no monopoly of words to address public figures who have earned their respect and dignity by employing inappropriate terms in addressing great party leaders,” the statement said.
It added that such conduct “reduces the person of Mr. Babachir Lawal as an individual who is characterized by extreme self-absorption with an exaggerated sense of self-importance and a selfish need for attention and admiration by others.”
The campaign organization also questioned Lawal’s electoral relevance, noting that he could not win his Banshika ward when he stood for President Peter Obi in the 2023 election.
“Can his single vote and action deliver the whole of North-East? If he cannot win his Banshika ward when he stood for President Peter Obi in the 2023 election, who then is he that is deceiving the people of Adamawa that he has an electoral value?” the statement queried.

The Binani campaign accused Lawal of “diversionary antics of political division, always burying his head in the sand while exposing his full frame, pretending that nobody knows his intentions.”
It contrasted his conduct with that of statesmen, who it said are known for “building bridges of unity and progress in any society,” while Lawal is “busy vilifying the good intentions of leaders who are building the party in the state and the region.”
The statement reaffirmed that Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani participated in a democratically convened meeting of gubernatorial candidates where decisions were taken in the interest of the zone, and reiterated the campaign’s position that Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains its leader in the North, “moving the party to greater heights.”
While acknowledging the constitutional rights of individuals to freely express themselves, the campaign organization insisted that the NDC’s constitution does not permit “cruel, indecent, and unschooled language in official debates and conversation.”
“This therefore calls for admittance that conscience, integrity, and respect for one another should be the bases of any sound political engineering,” it said.
The Adamawa State chapter of the NDC called on the national leadership of the party to draw Lawal’s attention to “listen to the voice of reason under the noble principle of majoritarian decision to ensure peace and tranquility reigns in our great party.”
