Nigeria is set to establish a new National Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

A new national resource center is set to be created in Nigeria for individuals with sensory impairments.

This initiative is supported by the head of the country’s humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Bernard Doro, along with former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje and various humanitarian stakeholders who are advocating for the center’s establishment.

The minister emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Individuals living with disabilities cannot continue to be overlooked in Nigeria.

“We must strive for a future where accessibility is inherently designed, shifting from retrofitting tools to constructing universal platforms; digital solutions must take precedence. Technology should enable individuals to navigate the world according to their own preferences.”

In addition, Fatima Ganduje Abiola-Ajumobi, the founder of Let’s Talk Humanity and a key figure in the center’s development, expressed her dedication to positively influencing the lives of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

“A national resource center for those with sensory impairments will allow them to access international knowledge and resources available in more developed regions regarding special needs,” she remarked.

Previously, Ganduje urged Northern governors and the Nigerian government to invest in PWDs to address the issue of begging.
