2027 Race Begins: Hon. Vrati Nzonzo Declares for House of Reps, Promises Grassroots-Focused Representation

Nigeria’s political atmosphere is steadily heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections, as aspirants across party lines increasingly step forward to declare their intentions for various offices. The latest to join the fray is Hon. Vrati Nzonzo, who has formally announced his bid to contest the House of Representatives seat for Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde Federal Constituency under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing a gathering of party faithful, community leaders, and youth groups in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Hon. Nzonzo declared that his decision followed wide consultations and persistent calls from constituents demanding stronger representation and accelerated development.

“The people of Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde deserve a louder voice in the scheme of things,” Nzonzo told the enthusiastic crowd. “I am not coming to make promises; I am coming to build on what we have started together with the people at the grassroots.”

The aspirant, who until now served as Executive Director of Planning and Design at the Chad Basin Development Authority in Maiduguri, outlined a priority anchored on security, youth employment, agricultural support, and improved education and healthcare delivery for the communities.

Nzonzo highlighted his track record in supporting women and youth cooperatives, arguing that his experience in public service positions him to deliver tangible results rather than mere rhetoric.

The declaration drew a strong show of support from party stakeholders, including the APC North East Youth Leader, as well as various youth and women leaders who pledged to mobilise support ahead of the party primaries.

In his remarks, Nzonzo called for peaceful and issue-based politics, urging other aspirants to focus on ideas that will move the constituency forward rather than personal attacks or divisive tactics.

He further disclosed that his campaign would kick off with a ward-to-ward tour in the coming weeks, aimed at engaging voters directly and documenting community needs.

As the 2027 election cycle gains momentum, political observers note that early declarations like Nzonzo’s signal a highly competitive race ahead, with constituents increasingly demanding accountability and performance from those seeking their mandate.
