MAUTH Holds  Matriculation for 320 Nursing Students

The Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, has officially inducted 320 students into its College of Nursing Sciences, signaling a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare education and workforce development in the region.

The matriculation ceremony, held on March 28, 2026, marked the institution’s first of such event and drew students, academic staff, and key stakeholders. The occasion symbolized both the formal admission of the students into the academic community and their commitment to the nursing profession.

The newly admitted cohort comprises 200 post-basic nursing students specializing in areas such as perioperative nursing, accident and emergency care, paediatrics, and neonatology. Also included are 120 students enrolled in National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.

Speaking at the event, the Provost of the College, Umar Aliyu, described the ceremony as a landmark moment in the institution’s academic journey. He noted that nursing remains a unique profession that blends scientific knowledge with compassion and human care, urging students to embrace both aspects throughout their training.

Also addressing the gathering, the Chief Medical Director, Adamu Girei Bakari, highlighted the rigorous yet fulfilling nature of the nursing profession. He encouraged the students to remain committed to continuous learning and professional excellence, stressing that nursing demands intellectual strength, ethical discipline, and emotional resilience.

The matriculation oath was administered by the Registrar, Usman Modibbo Gidado, as the students formally pledged to uphold the standards, ethics, and responsibilities associated with the profession.

Other speakers, including the Director of Nursing Services, Rabi Ali, alongside representatives from American University of Nigeria and Modibbo Adama University, charged the students to approach their academic journey with discipline, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose. They emphasized the importance of evidence-based practice, empathy, and adaptability in modern healthcare delivery.

The ceremony ended on a celebratory note, officially ushering the students into the nursing profession and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to producing skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals.
