The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has taken a decisive step towards unity and strength, following the successful reconciliation of its major factions and the subsequent swearing-in of new executives to complete its State Working Committee.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, effectively draws the curtain on a protracted leadership crisis that had plagued the party since its formation in the state, which previously saw multiple factional leaders claiming control of the party structure.

In his address at the event, the State Chairman, Mr. Shehu Yohanna, declared the internal crisis over, emphasizing that the harmonisation was driven by a collective resolve to build a formidable opposition party capable of challenging Nigeria’s dominant political players in the 2027 general elections.

“With this development, the State Executive Committee now consists of 44 members as required by our statutes,” Yohanna stated. He revealed that the reconciliation and harmonisation enjoyed the full backing of the ADC National Secretariat and the party’s national leader, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Yohanna described the moment as a turning point anchored on dialogue, compromise, and internal democracy. He commended the commitment of stakeholders across the former divides, noting that the newly sworn-in executives are “experienced, credible, and widely trusted politicians” whose calibre will reposition the ADC as a major political force in Adamawa.

However, the Chairman issued a stern warning to the party’s State Transition Committee, led by Sadiq Dasin, urging it to strictly confine itself to its constitutional mandate. He specifically cautioned that the registration of new members falls outside the committee’s remit and warned against any actions capable of reigniting discord.

Echoing this sentiment, the former factional chairman, Mallam Saidu Komsiri, now the party’s Organizing Secretary, described the inauguration as the beginning of ADC’s march towards electoral success. He similarly warned the Dasin-led committee against any moves that could undermine the newly achieved unity.

Komsiri expressed gratitude to the national leadership, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and key stakeholders for facilitating the peace process. “This is not a reward but a call to service. We must rebuild confidence, mobilise support, and strengthen our party structures. Let us bury our differences and work collectively to build a strong, united ADC capable of forming government,” he declared.

The event marks a critical phase of consolidation for the ADC in Adamawa, as it seeks to capitalise on the newfound unity to mobilise support and present a credible alternative to the electorate ahead of the next poll.
