AUN Provost Dr. Paul Vita Graces Poetic Mind Literary Foundation’s End-of-Year Hangout in Yola

The Poetic Mind Literary Foundation hosted its Annual End-of-Year Poetic Hangout, bringing together poets, writers, creatives, to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead at Beth Haram Gardens, Yola, Adamawa State

The gathering was honoured by the presence of Dr. Paul Vita, Provost and Vice President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), whose attendance underscored the growing recognition of literature and creative expression as vital tools for youth development and social transformation.

The end-of-year hangout served as a moment of reflection, celebration, and planning. Participants reviewed the Foundation’s journey over the years, highlighting key achievements that have strengthened its impact across communities. These include the successful hosting of online webinars, open mic sessions, school reading tours, and the widely embraced Poetic Mind Hangouts, which have become a safe and vibrant space for artistic expression and dialogue.

Speaking on the Foundation’s guiding purpose, organizers reaffirmed its vision of “a world where children, girls, youth, and marginalized individuals heal, thrive, and lead through the power of creative expression—transforming personal pain into purpose and driving inclusive, resilient, and just communities.”

The event featured an engaging poetic slam, with performances from various poets who captivated the audience.

One of the highlights of the hangout was a reflection session led by Mr. MaiLambo, who encouraged young people to boldly use their voices, reminding them that storytelling, poetry, and art are powerful instruments for shaping narratives and influencing society.

Several other speakers also shared insights on creativity, community building, and the responsibility of artists in nation-building, adding depth to the conversations that defined the evening.

The event attracted notable guests from the literary, media, and creative industries. Among them was Mr. Isuwa Ishaku, a journalist, columnist, and Features Editor with The Scope Newspaper. Mr. Isuwa is also an accomplished poet and author.

Also in attendance was Mr. Richard Soja, Manager of Inn Day Inn. Other distinguished guests included Papa Jalo and Barr. Benjamin Danfulo, among many supporters of the arts.
