Adamawa First Lady Unveils Health Insurance Support for 100 Cancer Patients

The intervention was announced by the wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, at the 2026 Pinktober North-East Campaign held at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola.

Represented by the Chief Medical Director of Yola Specialist Hospital, Dr. Dauda Wadinga, the First Lady said the scheme would be implemented through the Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, which she founded, in collaboration with First Ladies Against Cancer, where she serves as Vice Chairperson.

Hajiya Lami stressed that addressing cancer goes beyond creating awareness, noting the need for early screening, timely diagnosis, affordable treatment and continued support for patients and their families.

She commended the Adamawa State Government for its investments in healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic equipment and medical personnel, saying such efforts are critical to improving cancer care in the state.

The First Lady expressed hope that the intervention would inspire governments, organisations and development partners to do more in supporting cancer patients and improving access to treatment.

The Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir, and other health sector stakeholders attended the campaign.
