Hundreds of APM Members Defect to Labour Party in Adamawa’s Girei LGA

In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, registered members of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State have defected en masse to the Labour Party (LP).

The defection, which took place yesterday, was led by Mal. Saidu Aliyu of Sangere, who led former APM members into the LP and declared their full support for the party’s candidates in 2027.

The defectors unanimously pledged support for Sen. Ishaku Abbo for Governor of Adamawa State, Dr. Emmanuel N. Musa for Senate, Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, Engr. Yusuf Garba for House of Representatives, and Hon. Ahijo Yakubu for Girei Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

Receiving them on behalf of the LP and the candidates were Hon. Felix Gaude, Local Government Coordinator, SIA Campaign Council Girei, representing Sen. Abbo; Mr. David Dakum, LG Coordinator to Dr. Musa and Engr. Garba; Hon. Ahijo Yakubu, LP candidate for Girei Constituency; Mr. Thomas Adamu Fabadam, Secretary, Grassroots Mobilization Movement, Girei Chapter; and the Dr. Emmanuel Awareness Forum, led by State Coordinator Hon. Isa National. Officials welcomed the defectors and assured them of full integration into the party’s structures at all levels.

Speaking for the defectors, Aliyu said the APM structure in Girei resolved to align with the LP because of the credibility, track record and vision of its candidates. He described the move as a collective decision by members committed to real change in Adamawa State and urged supporters to work for LP’s victory in 2027.

Political observers said the mass defection significantly boosts the LP’s grassroots strength in Girei LGA and the broader Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, with hundreds of registered members expected to enhance voter mobilization.

The event ended with a unanimous resolution to commence immediate grassroots mobilization for the LP. The development underscores the ongoing political shift in Adamawa State and signals an intensifying contest for Girei Constituency, Adamawa Central and the governorship. Further defections are expected in the coming weeks.
