BREAKING NEWS: Bridge Collapse Cuts Off Maiha-Mubi Road, Community Stranded

A critical bridge in Bajaule collapsed last night following severe erosion, completely cutting off the road linking Maiha to Mubi. The incident occurred when a heavy truck passed over the already weakened structure, causing a section of the bridge to give way.

Fortunately, no injuries or damage to property were reported. However, the road is now completely impassable, leaving community members stranded and drivers at significant risk.

The collapse has severed a vital transport route, disrupting movement of people and goods between the two communities. Residents are now appealing to the government for urgent assistance, specifically requesting emergency repairs and the provision of temporary alternative routes.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Head of the Community, Jauro Abubakar Adamu, revealed that a contractor assigned to rehabilitate the bridge had abandoned the site for another project elsewhere, despite half of the structure having already been repaired.

“Government is really trying, but there is still need for more effort,” said resident Dauda Abubakar, expressing the mixed feelings of many in the community.

Following an on-the-spot assessment of the damage on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Ardo of Maranja, Daniel Bitrus, made a passionate appeal to the government. He specifically urged His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to direct the contractor to return and complete the work so that residents can enjoy easier passage.

The Ardo also expressed gratitude to the governor, describing him as “the governor of the masses,” and thanked him for his efforts and good governance toward the people of Adamawa State. He offered prayers for God’s continued blessings upon the governor.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the state government regarding plans for immediate intervention. The community remains cut off, awaiting urgent action to restore the vital road link.
