Adamawa Govt Pledges Stronger Media Partnership Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Chief of Staff to the Adamawa State Governor, Edgar Amos Sunday, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the media, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

Amos gave the assurance during a barbecue organised by the Adamawa State Ministry of Information and Strategy to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Describing the media as a critical partner in governance, the Chief of Staff highlighted its important role in informing citizens, promoting accountability, and documenting government activities.

He also appealed for stronger government support for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), specifically calling for the provision of a vehicle for its activities and the construction of a new NUJ Secretariat in the state. He assured journalists that he would convey the requests to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for consideration.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Leader Leneke, urged journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and responsible reporting ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Leneke described journalists as critical partners in governance and development, stressing that effective communication between government and the media was essential to keeping citizens informed and promoting accountability.

He commended journalists in the state for maintaining a cordial relationship with the ministry, particularly their practice of seeking clarification before publishing reports.

The Commissioner cautioned against misinformation, inflammatory reports, and other content capable of creating tension among citizens, especially during the 2027 electoral period. He noted that accurate and balanced reporting would contribute to peace, democracy, and development amid heightened political activities.

Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, commended the state government for creating the platform for interaction with journalists.

Wonosikou acknowledged the media’s role in informing the public, documenting government activities, and holding public authorities accountable, and called for sustained cooperation between the government and the NUJ.

He said regular engagement would promote mutual understanding and improve information flow between the government and the media.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the NUJ Adamawa State Council, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, appreciated the Commissioner for Information and Strategy and the state government for organising the programme.

Ibrahim described the gathering as an important initiative that provided an opportunity to celebrate journalists while strengthening the relationship between the government and the media.

The event brought together government officials and journalists to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, with emphasis on unity, peace, professionalism, and responsible journalism in the development of Adamawa State.
