Court Jails Three Shilla Gang Members 10 Years Each in Adamawa

The convicts — Sanusi Umar, 19; Mohammed Magaji, 17; and Yakubu Ibrahim, 20 — are residents of Zango Ward in Yola North Local Government Area.

They were convicted by Chief Magistrate Dorcas J. Mavah of Chief Magistrate Court II, Yola, for criminal conspiracy and extortion. Each was sentenced to three years for criminal conspiracy and seven years for extortion, totaling 10 years.

According to the prosecution, the three conspired, armed themselves with a cutlass, and attacked Bello Yusuf of Anguwan Tana, Yola North, on September 9, 2026. They unlawfully took his Smart P-30 mobile phone, valued at N42,000.

They were arrested by personnel of Doubeli Police Station following a complaint by the victim. They pleaded guilty after the First Information Report was read and explained to them. The police prosecutor thereafter applied for a summary trial, which the court granted before sentencing them.

Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the officers and personnel involved in the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of the case.

He reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against Shilla gangsterism, extortion, street violence, and other forms of criminality in the state.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to the Police on criminal activities within their communities, assuring that the Command would intensify efforts to make Adamawa State safer for all.
