NIS Adamawa Intercepts 17 Irregular Migrants, Arrests 2 Suspected Kidnappers with N34m Ransom

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Adamawa State Command, has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and intercepted 17 irregular migrants in separate operations.

In the first incident on September 6, 2026, operatives arrested Alhaji Jaye (55) and Buba Bello (34) in possession of N34 million in cash. During preliminary investigations, the suspects claimed the funds were intended as ransom for the release of a relative.

The Comptroller General of NIS has directed that the suspects and recovered items be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Adamawa State Command, for further investigation.

In a separate development, the Command intercepted 17 undocumented migrants at a private residence in Rumde Baru, Yola South LGA, following credible intelligence. The group comprised 13 Cameroonians (8 males, 5 females) and 4 Chadian nationals (all males).

The Command noted a concerning shift in lodging patterns, with undocumented migrants moving from hotels to private, unregistered apartments within the state capital.

DSI S. Abubakar, Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and border security, urging officers to remain vigilant.
