NEDC, Adamawa First Lady Donates 1,000 Bags of Fertiliser to Vulnerable Women Farmers

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Adamawa State, has flagged off the donation of 1,000 bags of 50kg NPK fertiliser to vulnerable women farmers across the state.

The intervention was officially launched on Thursday, 30th July 2026, at the Government House, Yola, by the Wife of the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Her Excellency, Haj. Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, marking a strategic effort to enhance agricultural productivity by providing women farmers with timely access to quality fertiliser during the current farming season.

Speaking at the event, Haj. Lami Ahmadu Fintiri commended the North East Development Commission for its unwavering support to the people of Adamawa State, describing the Commission as a dependable development partner whose interventions continue to restore hope, rebuild communities, and complement the efforts of the state government in post-insurgency recovery and sustainable development.

The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to empowering women, strengthening household food security, and building resilient communities through sustainable agricultural support.

Barr. Khalifa Muhammad Lawan, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the NEDC, while handing over the items, praised the First Lady for her dedication to the welfare of women and vulnerable groups in the state. He lauded her leadership and commitment to agricultural development, assuring her of the Commission’s continued partnership with her office for the overall development of Adamawa State.

“The fertiliser donation underscores the Commission’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through targeted interventions that promote agricultural development, economic inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods,” Barr. Lawan stated.

By equipping women farmers with essential farm inputs, the programme is expected to significantly increase crop yields, improve household incomes, and strengthen food production across Adamawa State.

The intervention aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises food security, agricultural development, women’s empowerment, and inclusive economic growth. It also supports the NEDC’s 10-Year Strategic Master Plan, particularly Pillar Two, which focuses on enhancing food security through climate-smart agriculture, livestock development, and strengthened agricultural value chains.

This partnership further reinforces the Commission’s mandate of accelerating socio-economic recovery and sustainable development across the North-East by implementing people-centred programmes that directly improve the lives of vulnerable citizens, particularly women, who play a vital role in agricultural production, household nutrition, and community resilience.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the fertiliser would go a long way in improving their farming output and ensuring food security for their families.
