Adamawa Court Remands Man Over Allegations of impregnating his  daughter

An Upper Area Court No. 1 sitting in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State has remanded a man, Jediel Sylvester, in a correctional facility over allegations of  impregnating his own daughter

The defendant was remanded on Monday by the presiding judge, Hon. Kabiru Musa, after he appeared before the court in connection with a direct criminal complaint filed against him.

The complaint was instituted by the minor and her maternal uncle through their counsel, Abdulrahman Njidda, under the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

The case, registered as Suit No. UACG/NO1/CR/FI/113/26, arose after the minor was taken for a medical examination, where it was discovered that she was pregnant.

According to the first complainant, Mohammed Audi, the matter was reported after the medical findings. He told the court that the girl denied that anyone outside the family was responsible.

The court also heard allegations that there were attempts to conceal the situation after the pregnancy was confirmed.

In her testimony, the complainant alleged that she had been subjected to repeated abuse, threats and intimidation by the defendant over a period of time.

Counsel for the complainants told the court that the allegations amount to offences under the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State.

After the charges were read, the defendant pleaded guilty before the court.

Hon. Kabiru Musa subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

The matter was adjourned to a later date for continuation of hearing.
