NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Unveils Two-Day Celebration for 2026 Correspondents’ Day

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has announced a lineup of activities to mark its 2026 Correspondents’ Day celebration, scheduled for April 15–16.

At a press conference on April 14, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade Umar Dankano, stated that the event is designed to commemorate the modest yet impactful achievements of the chapel under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kado, who recently completed one year in office.

Dankano described the celebration as an opportunity for journalists to reflect on their professional contributions to society, particularly in advancing public discourse, promoting accountability, and enhancing the well-being of the communities they serve.

He noted that the Correspondents’ Chapel plays a critical role in shaping public opinion and setting the agenda for both leaders and citizens, in line with Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates the media to uphold accountability and good governance.

According to Dankano, a series of activities have been carefully planned, including a training workshop for 100 practicing journalists aimed at reshaping election reportage ahead of the 2027 general elections. The chapel will also organise a medical outreach programme offering free health screenings for the public, covering conditions such as hypertension, Hepatitis, HIV, and other essential health checks.

Other highlights include a novelty football match between the executive and legislative arms of government to strengthen cordial working relationships, as well as an award and recognition segment to honour outstanding journalists for excellence in reportage, discipline, and professional conduct.

The committee expressed appreciation to members and stakeholders for their support and cooperation in ensuring the successful planning of the event.

Dankano called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to support and participate in the celebration, urging journalists to continue upholding the ideals of the profession and contributing meaningfully to societal development.
