Shettima Confirms Fintiri as APC Leader in Adamawa

Vice President Kashim Shettima has affirmed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is now the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State following his recent defection to the party.

Shettima made the declaration on Monday during a grand reception held in Yola to formally welcome Fintiri into the APC. His statement comes amid ongoing debates over the party’s leadership structure in the state, particularly in relation to Nuhu Ribadu, who was previously regarded as the party’s leader before Fintiri’s entry.

To clarify the position, the Vice President cited precedents from other states, noting that sitting governors typically assume party leadership. He referenced Babagana Zulum in Borno and Caleb Mutfwang in Plateau as examples where governors lead their respective state party structures.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, Shettima expressed satisfaction with Fintiri’s decision to join the APC, stating that both the party and the Federal Government are proud to receive him and his supporters.

He also commended the governor for developmental projects across the state, noting that they were evident upon arrival in Yola.

Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda officially presented the party’s flag and symbolic broom to Fintiri, praising him as a committed and hardworking leader. He encouraged the governor to strengthen the party’s presence in Adamawa and attract more political actors into its fold.

In his response, Fintiri pledged to consolidate the party’s influence in the state, promising to mobilize key stakeholders and expand APC’s membership base. He highlighted his recent role in facilitating the return of Abdulazeez Nyako to the APC, describing it as part of broader efforts to unify political forces under the party.
