My Biggest Regret in Life is not learning English – Messi

Football legend Lionel Messi has revealed that one of his biggest personal regrets is not learning English while growing up — despite achieving global success on the pitch.

The Inter Miami CF superstar made the candid admission during an appearance on the podcast Miro de Atrás, saying he often felt limited in conversations with world leaders and prominent figures because of the language barrier.

“To not have learned English as a boy… I deeply regret it,” said the 2022 World Cup winner. “I’ve been in situations with incredible personalities where I could talk and chat, and you feel half ignorant.”

Messi admitted that as a child, he didn’t realize how important education and preparation would be later in life. Now, he emphasizes those lessons to his children, urging them to value learning and make the most of their opportunities.

The Argentine icon, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 after a stint with Paris Saint-Germain F.C., said football has still been a powerful teacher in his journey.

“It teaches you strong values, creates lifelong bonds, and lets you discover new places,” he added.

Even at the top of the football world, Messi proves that growth and reflection never stop.
