Adamawa, Federal Aviation Teams Inspect Proposed Airstrip Site in Hong LGA

In a significant step toward expanding air connectivity in Adamawa State, a joint team of federal aviation authorities and state government officials on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed airstrip site in Hong Local Government Area.

The federal delegation was led by Engr. Samuel G. Mzekwe of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and comprised technical experts from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Leading the Adamawa State Government team was the Permanent Secretary, Political Matters, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Ibrahim Buba. He was accompanied by the State Surveyor-General, Mr. Pwavidon Arnold Simon; the Executive Chairman of Hong LGA, Hon. Inuwa Waganda; and other senior officials from both state and local government structures.

The proposed airstrip is situated along the Mararraba Mubi axis, specifically within the Kwarhi and Hildi District of Hong LGA—a location selected for its strategic positioning and potential to serve the economic corridor of the northern senatorial zone.

During the inspection, federal officials assessed the terrain and made technical observations regarding the land’s suitability for aviation infrastructure. Recommendations arising from the exercise are expected to guide the next phase of planning and design.

In his remarks, Malam Ibrahim Buba stated that the state government team had taken note of all technical input and would compile a comprehensive report. The findings, he said, will be forwarded to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri through the Secretary to the State Government for further directives.

The inspection marks another milestone in the Fintiri administration’s infrastructure agenda, which prioritises projects that bridge the urban-rural divide. According to officials, the proposed airstrip is expected to boost trade, enhance security responses, and improve access to the agricultural and mineral-rich communities of Hong and its environs.

“This is part of the sustained efforts of the People’s Governor to accelerate infrastructural development and bring socio-economic growth closer to grassroots communities,” a statement from the state team noted.

No timeline has been announced for the commencement of construction, but sources indicate that the project remains a high-priority intervention for the state government.
