Adamawa State Gov’t Sympathizes with Victims of Dumne Fire Disaster

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, has expressed sympathy to traders affected by the fire that gutted the Dumne grain market in Song Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, described the incident as devastating not only to the 60 affected traders of the ‘Kasuwan Dadi’ grain market, mostly women, but also to the wider economic fabrics of the state.

More than 60 open shops were said to have been destroyed in the inferno, the cause of which could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, several open shops and merchandise worth millions of naira to the affected traders who deal in grains and cooking condiments
Addressing the affected traders during her assessment visit, Wednesday Farauta urged them to take solace in whatever they lost to the inferno.

She thanked God that no life was lost, equally cautioned residents from careless and indiscriminate burning of refuse and bushes, especially as the hamattan set in.
“We came to commisurates with traders who lost their merchandise and pray that the fire doesn’t happen again.
“The fact that no live was lost, we are greatful to God.

“Whatever loss incurred, God will replace them.
“We are in dry season and hamattan season, fire can catch easily, people should be careful, when they set fire or throw away stick of cigarettes.
“Traders shoud ensure at the end of the business of the day, fire are properly put off, ” the deputy governor cautioned.

The deputy governor prayed to God to avert future recurrence even as she wished them a happy and prosperous new year.
Earlier, Chairman Song’s local government, Idris Yahaya appreciated the delegation for the visit.

Receiving the delegation, the Gubo Yungur, His Royal Majesty, John Dio Matalo thanked the high-powered government delegation for identifying with them during the trial moment.
The Monarch said the causes of the fire are still being investigated.

Racheal Christopher, one of the victims, said she lost her means of livelihood to the fire, including her bags of grains and cooking condiments she used to sell at the market.
The high-powered delegation includes, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Awwal D Tukur, Chief of Staff, Government House, Yola, Dr Edgar Amos Sunday, Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, and State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Idris Bande, among others.
