Adamawa Releases Second Cohort of National Health Fellows

The National Health Fellows Programme, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, selected a total of 774 Fellows nationwide, with one Fellow drawn from each of the 774 Local Government Areas across the Federation.

The programme is designed to build leadership capacity by embedding young and emerging professionals within federal, state and local health institutions to drive meaningful health sector reforms.

Speaking on the programme, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, described selection into the fellowship as more than an honour, stressing that it is a call to national service. According to him, Fellows are expected to contribute significantly to health system improvement through enhanced coordination, improved service delivery and measurable impact within their communities.

The Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Human Services noted that the selection of Fellows from all 21 Local Government Areas of the state underscores the programme’s commitment to equity, inclusiveness and local ownership of health reforms.

The Ministry in a statement signed by Abubakar Mohammed, Information Officer, on behalf of Commissioner of health and Human Services explained that prioritizing candidates from their communities of origin helps to deepen trust, strengthen cultural understanding and ensure sustainable transformation of the health system from the grassroots.

A total of 21 candidates from

 Adamawa State emerged successful in the second cohort of the programme. They include: Gidina Amasai (Demsa), Mustafa Bello Maigari (Fufore), Mayirenso Malachy (Ganye), Pwanolela Hotton (Girei), Innocent Jonathan (Gombi), Jefferson Joko (Guyuk), Adanaa Bananda (Hong), Abdulazeez Abdulrahman (Jada) and Shem Akure (Lamurde) .

Others are Esther John (Madagali), Abdullahi Alhaji Hassan (Maiha), Lilian Gibson (Mayo-Belwa), Damijda Dennis Wagaja (Michika), Gambu Clement (Mubi North), Abubakar Isa (Mubi South), Lentapwa Sakiyo (Numan), Ladi Ayuba (Shelleng), Tomdio Ayuba (Song), Muhammed Bardizbah Hassan (Toungo), Bashir Zakari Yahya (Yola North) and Mohammed Usman Shetima (Yola South).

The Ministry commended the successful Fellows for their achievement and urged them to uphold the values of professionalism, integrity, humility and selfless service as they assume their responsibilities within the health system.

It added that the Fellows are expected to return to their respective communities to learn, serve and champion health sector transformation where health outcomes are most directly shaped.

The Adamawa State Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen the health workforce and improve service delivery across all levels of healthcare in the state.
