First Lady Remi Tinubu Donates ₦500 Million, Relief Materials to Adamawa Flood Victims

In a strong show of solidarity and compassion, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative, has donated ₦500 million and relief materials to support victims of recent floods in Adamawa State.

The intervention is targeted at no fewer than 1,800 households affected by the devastating disaster, which claimed 29 lives, displaced thousands, and left widespread destruction in its wake.

The donation was formally presented during a condolence visit to the state, where Senator Tinubu was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima. The event was held in Yola, the state capital, and attended by top government officials and stakeholders.

Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, received the cash and materials on behalf of the state government. She described the gesture as timely and deeply appreciated, particularly by vulnerable individuals and families struggling to rebuild their lives.

“The humanitarian support from the First Lady is a ray of hope in a difficult time. We assure you that the distribution will be carried out with fairness, transparency, and accountability,” Farauta stated.

In her remarks, Nana Shettima emphasized that the intervention—including food and non-food items—was aimed at cushioning the impact of the disaster and supporting ongoing recovery efforts across affected communities.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Ubom Udoh, Managing Director of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), said the donation reflects a shared national commitment to restore hope and uplift the lives of Nigerians impacted by hardship.

In addition to the relief efforts, the visit featured the launch of a Women Economic Empowerment Programme in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation. The initiative will provide small business recapitalization grants to 500 women in Adamawa State, further strengthening the economic resilience of communities hit by the flood.

The First Lady’s intervention underscores the federal government’s renewed commitment to humanitarian response, women empowerment, and building a more resilient society.
