Adamawa govt fumigates drainage in Yola after Cholera outbreak

In response to a cholera outbreak, the Adamawa state government has initiated fumigation efforts in homes, major drainage systems, and refuse dumps in Yola and Jimeta. Governor Ahamdu Finitri emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment to help control the outbreak. During a recent monthly sanitation exercise, he instructed fumigators to conduct house-to-house fumigation and to desilt drainage systems to prevent flooding.

The governor encouraged residents to support these efforts, noting that the fumigation would eliminate harmful insects like mosquitoes and improve overall public health. He also acknowledged the high compliance rates in areas where cholera cases had been reported, such as Shagari, Wuru-Hausa, and Rumde.

Shehu Aliyu, chairman of the Shagari Community Association, praised the initiative, calling it timely and beneficial for the community. He highlighted that the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise is an effective strategy to address cholera, flooding, and malaria during this season. Recently, the state experienced a cholera outbreak that resulted in 12 deaths, with 304 cases treated and discharged.
