Yola Protesters Demand Fuel Subsidy, End Hunger

In Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, https://adamawastate.gov.ng/ hundreds of protesters gathered early Thursday morning at Police Roundabout and Mubi Roundabout to express their dissatisfaction with recent Nigerian economic policies. The protest, tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, reflects a broader national movement driven by soaring inflation, a devalued naira, and the removal of fuel subsidies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters demanded an end to hunger, insecurity, and rising inflation. They also called for reinstating fuel subsidies, which had previously provided significant relief. The demonstration remained peaceful as security forces worked to maintain order and prevent any violence or criminal activities.

The protest concluded at Bekaji Roundabout around 11 a.m. Organizers plan to return to the streets on Friday. Some participants, who spoke anonymously to local media, expressed frustration, saying, “Enough is enough; Tinubu should bring back the subsidy and ensure food availability in the country.”

As the protests gain momentum, the Nigerian government has shown a willingness to engage in dialogue with protest leaders. President Tinubu has warned against violence and promised to tackle pressing economic issues. In response, federal ministers will visit their respective states to meet with the public and discuss efforts to address the economic challenges.
