The Kukah Centre (TKC) organised a public presentation of a Preliminary Evaluation report on the project ‘Support to The National Peace Committee through The Kukah Centre, to advocate and facilitate overall Peace in Nigeria’. This was to review and discuss findings of the report informing future peace-building efforts in Nigeria.

In his opening remarks, Fr Atta Barkindo PhD reflected on the collaborative journey between the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the National Peace Committee, from advocating for marginalized communities to fostering peace and democratic resilience in Nigeria. He stated that the partnership has yielded tangible results with the Independent State based Peace Architectures (ISPAs), and other groups including women, youth and PWDs have been equipped with cognate skills to identify and mediate on potential conflict areas in their communities.

This research work undertaken by TKC (led by an independent evaluator, Mr. Emeka Diru) presents a detailed analysis report which aims to achieve a number of goals, including the reduction of fake news and disinformation, the achievement of peaceful elections and transition, the improvement of electorate’s peaceful conduct during elections, and the development of a cadre of citizens capable of identifying, analyzing, and mediating conflicts.

A crucial takeaway from TKC’s peace initiative was the importance of initiating early engagement with stakeholders, ISPAs, traditional rulers, women led groups, and youth groups, to establish trust and encourage peaceful dialogue.
The emphasis on community-based training proved to be highly effective in reaching a diverse range of citizens and building local capacity for conflict resolution.

A panel, featuring Fr Atta Barkindo PhD, Barr. Asabe Ndahi, and Ms Oluwafunke Deborah Obafemi, engaged in a thought-provoking discourse on the project overview, objectives and outcomes, challenges, recommendations and feedback from the audience.

The Kukah Center made this public in a Facebook ads on 22nd March 2024 to promote its peace advocacy campaign among others In Nigeria.
