Adamawa Police Warn Public Against Fraudsters Impersonating NNPCL, CBN Officials

The Adamawa State Police Command has issued a public advisory warning citizens against a growing wave of fraudsters impersonating engineers and staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other reputable government agencies.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the police had observed an increase in fraudulent calls from unknown individuals claiming to be officials of these organisations.

According to the Police, the fraudsters typically contact unsuspecting members of the public, claiming to have access to job opportunities, contract awards, or empowerment funds. Victims are then persuaded to part with money under the guise of facilitating these benefits.

The Command urged members of the public to disregard such calls and to avoid sending money to anyone making such claims.

“Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to these fraudsters,” the statement read.

The Police further encouraged residents to verify the authenticity of any such offers through official channels before taking any action, and to report suspicious calls or activities to the nearest police station.

The advisory comes amid rising concerns over the activities of impersonation syndicates targeting vulnerable Nigerians with promises of employment and financial empowerment.
