NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for 2026 Batch ‘B’ Prospective Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members must obtain clearance through the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for the mandatory one-year national service.

The directive was issued as the scheme steps up preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members and continues efforts to strengthen both its verification process and the safety of participants.

In a notice posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the NYSC stressed that NERD clearance is now a mandatory requirement for all prospective corps members (PCMs).

The agency advised eligible graduates to complete the clearance process as early as possible to prevent unnecessary delays in their mobilisation.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.

Reinforcing the directive, the NYSC added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Although the agency did not provide further details on how the clearance process works, the announcement suggests a tighter verification system ahead of the upcoming orientation exercise.

The latest advisory comes shortly after the NYSC unveiled plans for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before orientation camp begins.

It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the scheme cautioned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night due to security concerns.

The NYSC advised travellers to suspend their journeys when necessary and spend the night in secure locations or at nearby military and other security formations where available, instead of travelling after dark.

The series of advisories underscores the scheme’s commitment to ensuring a more secure mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid ongoing security challenges across the country.

As preparations for the next orientation exercise continue, prospective corps members are encouraged to complete every required registration and verification procedure, including the mandatory NERD clearance, before reporting to camp.
