NEMA, ADSEMA Distribute Relief Materials to 1,000 Vulnerable Households in Adamawa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in partnership with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), has distributed food relief materials worth millions of naira to 1,000 vulnerable households across three communities in Adamawa State.

The distribution exercise, held over the weekend at the government’s Central Store in Yola, targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable families, and people living with disabilities as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the country’s current economic hardship.

Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Operations of NEMA for Adamawa and Taraba States, Mr. Ladan Ayuba, said the intervention was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians and easing the burden caused by rising living costs.

According to Ayuba, the relief materials were distributed to beneficiaries from Hulere, Sangere Bode, and Ngurore communities, as well as internally displaced persons from four officially closed IDP camps who have since resettled in various communities across the state.

He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the food items, emphasizing that both the federal and state governments remain committed to delivering meaningful interventions that directly improve the lives of citizens.

Reacting to the gesture, the Chairman of the National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD), Adamawa State Chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Toungo, described the intervention as timely, noting that it would help reduce the economic hardship facing many vulnerable households.

He commended both NEMA and ADSEMA for the support and appealed for similar interventions to be extended to other communities yet to benefit.

“We are very happy with this gesture from the government. I appeal for more interventions so that other communities can also benefit,” Toungo said.

Some beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the assistance. Mrs. Azumi Bala from Hulere community, a mother of eight, said the food items would significantly ease the burden of feeding her family.

Similarly, Umar Datti Mohammed from Ngurore thanked the agencies for the intervention, describing it as a timely response to the challenges facing many households. He prayed for God’s blessings upon those who made the support possible.

Items distributed to each beneficiary included a 25-kilogram bag of parboiled rice, a 25-kilogram bag of beans, a four-litre gallon of groundnut oil, packs of seasoning cubes, and processed tomato paste.

The distribution was conducted peacefully under the supervision of security personnel who ensured order throughout the exercise.
