Tinubu Sends High-Level Delegation to London for Buhari’s Repatriation

A presidential delegation, personally assigned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has landed in London to facilitate the repatriation of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s remains.

The delegation, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday morning to oversee arrangements for the dignified return of Nigeria’s former leader, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital after a prolonged illness.

They were received at the airport by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.

In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, the presidency confirmed the arrival of the team and reiterated the government’s commitment to honouring Buhari’s legacy with dignity and respect.

Following the announcement of Buhari’s death, President Tinubu directed the national flag to be flown at half-mast across the country and tasked Vice President Shettima to personally lead the mission to London.

Muhammadu Buhari, who once served as Nigeria’s military Head of State (1984–1985) before returning as a two-term civilian President (2015–2023), is remembered as a symbol of discipline, patriotism, and unwavering integrity.

Plans are currently underway to return his body to Nigeria, where official mourning rites and full state honours will be held in his memory.
