Suspected Boko Haram Launches Attack On A Community In Hong LGA

Suspected members of Boko Haram insurgents have launched an attack on Kwapre village in the Hong local government area of Adamawa State.

It was learnt that the Military, based in the nearby Garaha, engaged the insurgents, thereby forcing them to retreat to their hideouts.

The latest attack was said to be the tenth reported incursion by Boko Haram into these communities that share borders with Sambisa forest in Borno State den of the insurgents between last year and this year.

Many souls were lost in previous attacks, residential buildings and business premises destroyed, foodstuff and other items looted while the residents were forced to flee for safety.

According to Mr. Joel Kulaha, the Village Head of Kwapre, and Hon. Abalis Jawaja, the Village Head of King, the attackers who descended on the community around 7:30 pm local time on Tuesday have ransacked properties worth millions of naira and later burnt down residential houses, churches, public schools, and business premises.

The Village Head said: “Fortunately, no lives were lost in this latest assault, as residents, forewarned by the escalating threat, fled their homes before the attackers arrived.

“We escaped with our lives, but everything we own is gone”.

“This is our ancestral land. We are farmers, and we have nowhere else to go.

Mal Aliyu, the District Head of Yadul, said: “We are helpless and at the mercy of the government to protect us from these evil men.”

No response to several phone calls put to Mr. Usman Inuwa Wa’aganda, the Chairman of Hong LGA, for comment; however, one of his aides confirmed the incident, adding that security measures have been put in place to restore normalcy in the area.
