Senate Passes Vote of Confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Refers Rowdy Session to Ethics Committee

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praising his handling of the upper chamber’s affairs. The decision came after the body discussed and reviewed last week’s rowdy session, during which protests erupted over a seat rearrangement issue.

The session became chaotic after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan raised objections to the sudden change of her seat without prior notice. Senate Spokesperson, Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), moved a point of order, addressing the incident and urging his colleagues to condemn Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct, noting that her protest created a negative perception among the public and media.

In his contribution, Senate Leader moved a motion to support the Senate President’s actions regarding the matter, which received overwhelming approval. Additionally, the Senate voted to refer the incident to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen, for a thorough investigation.
