Max Air Confirms Safe Crash-Landing at Kano Airport, Investigation Underway

Max Air has confirmed that one of its planes made a crash-landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night, January 28, 2025, after losing a nose landing gear tire. The incident occurred around 10:57 PM as the aircraft, which was coming from Lagos, attempted to land. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

The airline took to social media on Wednesday to provide details about the emergency. According to Max Air, the aircraft was promptly removed from the runway by 4:28 AM the following morning. While the runway was temporarily closed for inspection, Max Air reassured the public that the aircraft’s emergency was professionally managed by the crew, ensuring that all individuals onboard were unharmed.

“Thanks to our dedicated team, there were no fatalities,” the airline stated. However, passengers were advised that flight operations on Wednesday could experience delays due to the runway closure for safety checks. Max Air promised to keep travelers updated on any changes to flight schedules.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has started its investigation into the incident. A spokesperson for the NSIB confirmed that their team had been on-site since the night of the incident, collecting evidence and documenting the event. The agency is expected to release more information once their investigation is complete.

This incident follows a similar emergency landing on December 5, 2024, when another Max Air aircraft experienced an engine fire shortly after takeoff in Maiduguri. In that case, the plane had to return to the airport for an emergency landing with nearly 80 passengers onboard, including Borno State’s Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur.

Max Air’s prompt response and the professional handling of both incidents underline their commitment to passenger safety. The airline assures passengers that it continues to prioritize safety and will provide updates as necessary.
