JUST IN: Labor Party Akpata loses polling unit to PDP’s Ighodalo

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the Edo State governorship election, has lost at his polling unit to Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ighodalo received 41 votes, defeating Akpata, who garnered 32 votes at polling unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo LGA in Benin City, the state capital. Monday Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 19 votes.

Earlier, Akpata had urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair electoral process for all candidates. He expressed confidence that voters in the state would participate peacefully.

Reflecting on his own voting experience, Akpata shared, “I was given my ballot paper, went to the booth, thumb printed, and dropped it in the ballot box. Everything went well.” He added, “I hope this is the experience for every Edo voter. I will wait for feedback from all the wards and polling units.”
